One Hour Webinar from MORC

The Power of Empathy for Parents and Caregivers of Children With Special Needs

Celebrate Hope LLC will discuss the necessity of unconditional empathy as it relates to working with children who have special and unique needs and supporting their parents with the same level of empathy.  Specific tools will be identified that can be used in order to cultivate an environment that creates a positive and rewarding experience for not only the child but also for the parents and those support people that interact with them.

Celebrate Hope is founded by John Ball and Lisa Goyette. They have over 30 yrs of educational and professional experience.  Each is the parent of a child with special/unique needs. They understand the struggles that parents who have children with special and unique needs encounter as well as those who provide care face. They are passionate about helping and committed to sharing what they know to bring forth support for not only families, but also care-providers.

MIAT College of Technology Open House Jan. 26th

MIAT College of Technology is having an Open House and it scheduled for Friday Jan. 26th ( a day that students have off!!)  See below for more information and click on the RSVP link if you are interested.

Come to our Open House on January 26th, and get a feel for what it’s like to be a student at MIAT! Some of the things you’ll be able to do are:

Speak with instructors, staff members, and students.
See our training facilities and classrooms.
Take a tour of MIAT’s aircraft hangars and equipment hangars.
Get information about the programs MIAT offers and more!

The event will take place at our Canton, Michigan campus. Our campus is located at 2955 S. Haggerty Rd. Canton, MI 48188.

 Tours will start at 11:00am and 1:00pm EST.

Please RSVP with your desired time slot in order to finalize your attendance, and feel free to bring friends and family to the event as well!

OCC Transitions Tour

If your student is planning on attending Oakland Community College in the summer/fall and has an IEP or 504 plan, you may want to attend the OCC Transitions Tour.  This session is designed specifically for students that have an IEP or 504 plan and are considering college. 

Date:  Friday March 16, 2018
Place:  OCC Orchard Ridge Campus
Time:  10am - 12pm

You will be able to learn about OCC services and accommodations through the ACCESS (Disability Services) on campus. 

Please reserve your spot by completing a tour request 1 week prior to date of choice.

Visit , select "Campus Tour" button and complete the tour request.  Make sure to check IEP or 504 and Orchard Ridge Campus.

Project Venture at Michigan State

If your student is planning on enrolling in a 2 or 4 year college, Michigan State University is hosting a "pre-college" experience for students ages 16-18 with an identified disability.   As part of this experience, per their website, students will get to:

At Project Venture you will:

  • Talk directly with current MSU students with disabilities who have “been there” and understand the journey
  • Consult with university disability specialists to gain skills for college
  • Experience the latest assistive technology through breakout sessions
  • Attend a college class, stay overnight, and connect with other high school students with disabilities 
  • Become aware of self-advocacy skills and resources for a successful transition to higher education

The cost is $150 (though there is financial support considerations available) and it runs June 24-27, 2018.  

Apply soon!  They stop taking applications after the first 50 and then only accept 20 students.
